RF Shielding Paint & Accessory Items

Y-Shield is an acrylic latex paint similar in application parameters to commercially available no-VOC paint. It is considered a primer suitable for application of your final color-coat paint. This is a no-VOC paint except for the addition of a small amount of denatured alcohol to prevent freezing. This flashes off quickly after application. As with any paint, chemically sensitive individuals should not be present during and for some period after painting. Two layers of paint are typically applied to account for possible pin-holing and for variation in applied thickness.

RF Shielding Film for Glazing

Single pane glass is transparent to RF. Double pane glazing made since the 1990’s is typically ‘low-e’ glass which reflects RF. The amount of reflection depends on the glass specification and can be 90 – 99%. Double pain glass can be tested to see if it is RF protective using a wireless router and an RF meter. Two 99.9% effective RF reflection films are available: Signal Protect Silver and Signal Protect Clear. They are available in 3, 4 and 5 foot widths in even 5 foot lengths. Installation is similar to conventional tinting film and can be installed by a local tinting film installer.

Signal Protect Silver
Signal Protect Silver is less expensive, but stops 78% of the visible light from entering the room. It has a coppery hue.

Signal Protect Clear
Signal Protect Clear only blocks 22% of the visible light allowing considerably more light to enter the room.

RF Shielding Foil and Tape

Shielding foil is a tough, tear resistant, scrim reinforce aluminum foil product. It is 99.999% effective. The foil is available in 4 ft wide by 125 ft long rolls. The widths of film are overlapped and the seam is covered with aluminum tape. The foil can be stapled to hold it in place. Foil is typically used on the floor under the rug, in the attic, in new construction inside under the drywall or outside over the sheathing.

RF Shielding Fabrics

There four Swiss Shield fabrics available for various applications from window curtains to clothing to bed canopies. They vary from 99.6 to 99.99% in shielding effectiveness. These fabrics are not conductive so the fabric can not be grounded or Earthed.

RF Bed Canopies and Floor Sheets

Bed canopies made from Swiss Shield Daylite or Naturell fabrics. You chose one depending on your need for air circulation and for RF shielding effectiveness (99.6 and 99.99% respectively for the fabric not the whole canopy). They are available from stock for single, double, king and queen beds. If your bed is above the first floor you may need a piece of fabric under the bed.
