There are dozens of plastics in use today and this creates confusion about the safety of each of these plastics. There are a few of high volume plastics that constitute the majority of plastics that you might encounter:
- Polyethylene
- Polypropylene
- Polycarbonate
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
- Polystyrene
- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
What of the safety of these plastics? A wonderful, free booklet from The Center for Health, Environment and Justice is available that explains what you need to know. Particularly about PVC and some other plastics (page 38) with unhealthy constituents.
